“…Measurements of the polarization of light reflected from the surface of asteroids as a function of phase angle have been made by Lyot (1934), Gehrels et al (1970), Veverka (1970Veverka ( , 19-1a, b, 1973, Dunlap et al (1973), DunlaR (1974), Zellner et al (1974) and Zellner and Gradie (1976a, b). Polarimetric measure ments of laboratory, comparison materials have been used as a basis for interpreting these data by Dollfus (1971), -Dollfus and Geake (1975), Veverka and Noland (1973), Bowell and Zellner (1973) and Zellner and Gradie (1976a) is a function of the albedo of the surface inaterial& Polarime tricly derived asteroid albedos have the same general range (3-30%) as do meteoritic materials.…”

“…llb). These data are taken from Gehrels et al (1970), and are difficult to compare rigorously with our measurements as they were made using wide-band filters. To strengthen the argument, the polarization curve of Icarus is consistent with the curves for Bruderheim (Gehrels et al, 1970).…”

“…These data are taken from Gehrels et al (1970), and are difficult to compare rigorously with our measurements as they were made using wide-band filters. To strengthen the argument, the polarization curve of Icarus is consistent with the curves for Bruderheim (Gehrels et al, 1970). As Icarus was only observed over phase angles ranging from 40°to 1000, its negative branch cannot be compared with those of our samples, but at a = 600 the polarization of Icarus is about 3.5% (in the spectral range of our G filter) that compares favorably with the values for the "coated" sample given in Table VI.…”

“…For instance, is it possible, as Bell (1917), Stumpff (1948), Widorn (1964) and recently Gehrels et al (1970) have tried to do, to determine the absolute reflectivities of asteroids in this way?…”
