MiR-520f acts as a biomarker for the diagnosis of lung cancer

Abstract: Lung cancer is a malignant tumor with high morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis remains a great challenge for the cancer. In this study, we aimed to explore diagnostic performance of serum microRNA-520f ( miR-520f ) in lung cancer. Serum specimens were collected from 139 lung cancer patients and 76 healthy volunteers. Relative expression level of serum miR-520f was detected adopting quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). Chi-squa… Show more

“…In the current investigation, ROC curve analysis demonstrates SLCO4C1's high effectiveness in diagnosing lung cancer, particularly in advanced stages. Comparable diagnostic markers, such as miR-520f and SHOX2 gene promoter hypermethylation, have shown signi cant AUCs in previous studies [25][26][27]. SLCO4C1, therefore, holds considerable potential as a diagnostic biomarker for lung cancer.…”

“…21 In human cancers, several miRNAs have been identified to be candidate biomarkers for noninvasive screening, such as miR-520f, miR-1290, and miR-21. [22][23][24] Recent researches suggest the potential role of several miRNAs in the pathogenesis of CAS, which may be involved in the evolution of carotid plaque toward growth, instability, and rupture. 25 Another study has compared miRNA expression profiles in atherosclerotic plaques from human carotid arteries and healthy arteries, and several miRNAs are identified to be aberrantly expressed in plaque tissue and associated monocytes.…”

“…If this measurement results in a signal of the maximum amplitude, we conclude that (i) the subject is not infected with SARS-CoV-1 and (ii) that none of the reagents are RNase contaminated. The positive control speaks to the general performance of the bioassay: in this case it employs a crRNA designed to target synthetic microRNA-520f (miR-520f, associated with proliferation of lung and gastric cancer cells 39,40 ), which is added at a concentration high enough to completely eliminate the amperometric signal. These oligonucleotides could, however, be replaced by any other experimentally validated crRNA-target-pair, with a known amperometric readout that can be correlated to the utilized concentrations.…”
