Wiring problems in aging aircraft have been identified as the cause of several tragic mishaps and hundreds of thousands of lost mission hours. Intermittent wiring faults, which occur during flight, have been and continue to be difficult to resolve. This makes it necessary to monitor live aircraft wires continuously, without affecting the aircraft signals on live wires. Monitoring of live aircraft wires can be accomplished by various Reflectometry methods. Sequence Time Domain Reflectometry (STDR) is one of the Time DomainReflectometry methods for detecting discontinuities on live wires carrying signals or data, without disturbing them. In this paper, we have modeled this STDR system using MATLAB coding and interfacing with the Simulink blocks. This model prototypes the STDR method along with correlation to detect either open or short circuits.

A new concept to fault detection in wire networks, based on the properties of time reversal, is presented. The method, called the Matched Pulse approach (MP), propose to adapt the testing signal to the analyzed network, instead of using a predefined signal, as opposed to existing reflectometry methods. Through mathematical study and numerical simulations, we show the benefits of this technique. A physical interpretation is also presented to better understand the proposed approach.

Abstract. TCable system is an important part of the aircraft.As the plane "nervous system",cable system is the important role of carrying out electricity, assigned signal and transmission tasks,but also to provide contact information between each system control. The volume and weight of the cable is restricted because of the characteristic of the aircraft structure，it usually uses smaller diameter and thinner insulating layer wires,the cable is densely distributed and hidden deep in the various parts of the aircraft.It requests high integrity and security in the flight environment. In the process of flight,wire is often subjected to the influence of chemical pollution, radiation, heat and cold, electricity, vibration, friction, external force.The insulating layer will be wear, corrosion and aging,eventually led to the arc fault, timely detection of cable fault and implementation according to situation to ensure flight safety.This article expounds several kinds of commonly used wire fault localization method and compares their advantages and disadvantages, and application conditions, preparing for further research in the future .
