Mobile Applications for Allergic Rhinitis

Abstract: The collection of mobile apps developed for allergic rhinitis includes those for both educational and clinical use. Mobile apps may have an increasing role in otolaryngic allergy and rhinology practices in the future. Thus, continued research is warranted to determine the best way to ensure the accuracy and quality of app content as well as the extent mobile apps can benefit allergic rhinitis patients.

“…Some research in the field of AR () has already been described. A recent review identified 72 apps related to AR; although most were related to patient education and pollen count, 14 (19.4%) were related to symptom tracking (78). By way of an example, the Mobile Airways Sentinel network (MASK) rhinitis tool is used to implement care pathways for AR by using a smartphone-/tablet-based application and a clinical decision support system (79)(80)(81).…”

“…Although many apps are dedicated to the management and monitoring of allergic rhinitis, only few have been used in studies published in peer-reviewed international journals [7,8]. A very large collaborative network focused on rhinitis and its treatment is accumulating evidence through the worldwide use of MASK-Air (MASK standing for Mobile Airways Sentinel Network).…”
