Mobile communication system with a hybrid phased array antenna system

Abstract: This paper presents Low Earth Orbit (LEO) mobile communication system features, analyzes its advantaged and disadvantages, discusses space division multiple access technology as one of the important research areas involved in their development, configuration, maintenance, operation and management. In LEO satellite the problem of huge system capacity and simultaneous communications between many single or multipoint mobile users can be solved by using a well-known beamforming. However common digital beamforming t… Show more

“…Follows the parameter setup in [23], N s = n sub × n r = (4 × 4) × (21 × 21), indicating that the analog beam formed by the 4 × 4 analogue subarray is much wider than the digital beam, which is formed by the combination of the 441 analogue subarrays. Therefore, we assume a predetermined W m = Wm is applied to illuminate a fixed terrestrial area A m , where the majority of the terrestrial receivers are based.…”

“…In this paper, the exact structure of the transmit antenna is based on the one proposed in [23]. The total antenna elements is divided into n r subarrays, each of which contains n sub = N s /n r antenna elements and is connected to an RF chain.…”

“…Simultaneously, low sidelobe and bare nulls in directional diagrams can be achieved using array synthesis, enhancing the system's ability to withstand interference and producing more dependable and stable communication lines. Because of their outstanding performance and rapid development, phased array antennas are gaining importance and are extensively applied in the field of advanced military [7][8][9][10] and commercial applications [11][12][13][14].…”

It employs both digital and analog beamforming [7], [8]. The second is implemented via phase-shifters that reduce an overall complexity [9].…”
