“…These issues could be related to the rapid dissemination of 3GC-R mediated by horizontal transfer in broiler farms (22). On the other hand, the (26). In Ecuador, bla KPC-2 is the most prevalent carbapenemase gene detected in E. coli in hospitals (27,28), and recently it was detected in an urban river in Citrobacter freundii (29).…”

“…Moreover, mobile genetic elements (MGEs) can facilitate the spread of bla NDM genes, and the similarity of the bla NDM -flanking sequences in these plasmids suggests that horizontal mobilization of bla NDM via MGEs is responsible for its evolution and rapid transmission between plasmids and chromosomes ( 8 10 ). Furthermore, insertion sequences, such as IS Aba125 , IS 3000 , IS 26 , IS 5 , IS CR1 , Tn 3 , Tn 125 , Tn 3000 , and Tn 1548 , seem to play an important role in the dissemination of NDM-encoding genes ( 8 , 11 13 ). Most of the bla NDM sequences available in GenBank are flanked upstream by a complete or truncated copy of IS Aba125 and downstream by the ble MBL gene.…”

“…Clonal spread in Brazil 65,66 and certain South American countries has been extensive 64,67 . Reyes et al reviewed publications (in English or Spanish) until 2019; data from seven South American countries noted that K. pneumoniae belonging to clonal complex 258 was most common; the most prevalent CPase genes were KPC and NDM 68 . A recent study in a hospital in Brazil reported 27 isolates of CP-resistant K. pneumoniae (CR-Kp); 24 (88.8%) produced KPC; 16 (59.2%) produced NDM; 13 (48.1%) expressed both genes 65 .…”
