Mobile Information and Communication Technology and Management of Business Changes in Construction Companies in Slovenia

Abstract: In this paper, we are using the business process reengineering (BPR) concept together with the potentials of mobile information and communication technology (mobile ICT) to interpret the ability for better capturing of business changes that construction companies are faced with. Through our intensive examination of reengineering initiative in construction, we find that relatively low emphasis was placed on the opportunity to use information and communication technology (ICT) more progressively throughout the c… Show more

“…to receive/transmit information from/of site. Moreover, Molony (2008) studied the role of mobile phones being a cost saving device in the Tanzanian construction sector while in Slovenia, Suman et al (2009) developed a methodological concept 'Reengineering of the construction process (RCP-model)' to captures the business process reengineering (BPR) philosophy besides the potentials of (mobile ICT) aiming to create a communication environment which would assist the dynamic communication and cooperation between project actors and project data. Therefore, implementation of mobile ICT components (PDAs, mobile phones, table computers) was thought of enhancing the extension of communication system.…”

“…[43] studied the role of Mobile Phones in Tanzania's informal construction sector in order to assess the applicability of government policy and Tanzania's small-enterprise development policy on the use of internet. Differently, in Slovenia, [44] examined the factors affecting the implementation of mobile information and communication technology to improve the performance of concrete construction companies in light of business process reengineering (BPS) Task. [45] mentioned the roles played by (MW) in many construction tasks including the use of RFID as a technology for accident reduction; (S) Task and the use of GIS and GPS technologies for waste reduction (S) and (EN) Tasks.…”

“…Moreover, IS project very often requires reorganization of processes in operation at this point of time. In turn, reorganization of processes is strictly connected with a need to implement the CM concept (Hornstein, 2008;Suman, Ursic, Psunder, & Veselinovic, 2009). Some authors, who also consider public sector changes, point at the fact that these changes may not be more difficult than those in the private sector, but for sure they are different (Cunningham & Kempling, 2009).…”
