MobiShare: Flexible privacy-preserving location sharing in mobile online social networks

Abstract: Abstract-Location sharing is a fundamental component of mobile online social networks (mOSNs), which also raises significant privacy concerns. The mOSNs collect a large amount of location information over time, and the users' location privacy is compromised if their location information is abused by adversaries controlling the mOSNs. In this paper, we present MobiShare, a system that provides flexible privacy-preserving location sharing in mOSNs. MobiShare is flexible to support a variety of location-based app… Show more

“…The study of location-based anonymize scheme has gained the great interest from the research community recently, and we briefly review some of them related to our work [26][27][28][29][30][31]. In [26], users' location is encrypted when shared in mobile social applications and can be only decrypted by the data owner.…”

“…In [27], the credential information is updated on the basis of mobile cloud packets exchange, protecting against credential faking or stealing attacks. MobiShare [28] is a location privacy framework in mobile online social networks by separating user identities and anonymized location updates. Secure mobile user-based data service mechanism (SDSM) [29] provided confidentiality access control for data stored in the cloud by identity-based proxy reencryption scheme.…”

“…Each of these papers attempt to design one specific locationbased service in a privacy preserving way. Mobishare, [15], allows users to share their (authenticated) location values with one another, without allowing any third parties to link user (OSN profile) with location. However, it requires significant changes to the infrastructure including cellular towers.…”

“…Recently, in mONSs, several methods [7][8][9][10][11] have been proposed to protect users' location privacy in friends' and strangers' queries in the user-specified distance. In the research of [7][8][9][10], user's location privacy is protected by adding dummy identities.…”
