Abstract:A nonlinear analysis of the popular emitter-coupled multivibrator is performed, which is based on the classical discontinuity theory. Exact closed-form expressions for predicting the amplitude of relaxation oscillation and its frequency are obtained. Numerical SPICE simulations were performed to check the validity of the above expressions and to show the errors stemming from the usual assumption of constant capacitor charging current made in previous analyses.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
