Modeling and energy consumption evaluation of a stochastic wireless sensor network

Abstract: In this article, we consider a stochastic model of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in which each sensor node randomly and alternatively stays in an active mode or a sleep mode. The active mode consists of two phases, called the full-active phase and the semi-active phase. When a referenced sensor node is in the full-active phase of the active mode, it may sense data packets, transmit the sensed packets, receive packets, and relay the received packets. However, when the phase of the sensor node switches from th… Show more

“…However in the second case on demand sleep scheduling protocols are considered. The main goal for using active and sleep modes in both cases is to save on sensor power as illustrated in previous researches [46] [44] [11]. In both cases the CH or the channel may fail while operating in any state.…”

“…You can also connect to the Internet through a gateway in remote access. Wireless sensor networks originated in military applications, and now, wireless sensor networks are increasingly used in environmental and ecological monitoring, health monitoring, home automation and traffic control, and many other civilian areas [2] . Typically wireless sensor nodes in the network are widely distributed at a larger number, which cannot rely on supplemental batteries as an energy source.…”
