Modeling and Formulation of Optimization Problems for Optimal Scheduling of Multi-Generation and Hybrid Energy Systems: Review and Recommendations

Abstract: Increasing power demands require multiple generating units interconnected with each other to maintain the power balance of the system. This results in a highly dense power system consisting of multiple generating units which coordinate with each other to maintain the balanced performance of the system. Among different energy sources, the thermal source, the hydro energy source, the photovoltaic system, and the wind energy source are the most popular ones. Researchers have developed several optimization problem… Show more

“…Electricity significantly affects the local and global economy, while becoming one of the main reasons for the growth of the global economy. Among the different energy sources, thermal energy, water energy, photovoltaic systems and wind energy are the most popular [1]. Wind and photovoltaic energy are among the most popular and widely used sources of electricity production, due to the low cost of production and the simplicity of the generation system.…”

“…The paper [74] provided a comprehensive review on different optimization methods available to find solutions for a combined economic emission dispatch problem. Liaquat et al [75] made a comprehensive literature review on several developed optimization techniques and discussed the nature of the objective functions engaged in various dispatch problems. Tapas et al [76] listed different techniques which were suggested by various authors for combined economic operation and environmental impact.…”

“…The inflexibility of regulated monopolies for electric utilities with fixed retail/feed-in tariffs (FIT) for residential customers creates an opportunity for the formulation of a local market framework to enable a competitive market environment [1][2][3]. Residential customers that invest in rooftop photovoltaic solar (PV) can act as small-scale energy producers in the neighbourhood, enabling them to share excess energy with their neighbours.…”
