Modeling and Monte Carlo simulation on photothermal effect in Gd3Al3Ga2O12:Ce3+/Y3Al5O12:Cr3+ layered composite ceramic

Abstract: Layered composite ceramics have wide application in solid‐state lasers. However, the photothermal effect in the layered ceramics has not been clarified, due to the interface effect between layers. In this work, the model of photon propagation and thermal distribution in the Gd3Al3Ga2O12:Ce3+/Y3Al5O12:Cr3+ layered ceramics are established. The property of photon absorption, reflection, transmission, and thermal distribution are studied by combining the Monte Carlo method and the convolution method. It is found … Show more

“…An example is single‐mode fiber lasers that need a cladding with n just slightly lower than that of the doped core, 16–18 high k to dissipate heat, and similar thermal expansion ( α ) between fiber core and cladding to minimize undesirable photoelastic effects and interfacial cracking 19–21 . Other composite waveguides and phosphors have similar property requirements 22–27 …”

“…[19][20][21] Other composite waveguides and phosphors have similar property requirements. [22][23][24][25][26][27] There is usually significant solid-solution between most garnet compositions, 28,29 so formation of a new phase is less likely in short times at high or intermediate temperatures. The thermal expansion of most garnets is similar, 30,31 so thermal residual stress for co-processed systems is low.…”

“…Thus, the color converter used in pc-WLD should satisfy the requirements, such as: (1) high thermal stability, (2) high thermal conductivity, (3) high optical conversion efficiency and (4) high luminance saturation threshold. Currently, the types of laser-excited phosphor include single crystal phosphor (SCP) [12][13][14], ceramic phosphor [15][16][17], and phosphor-in-glass (PiG) [18][19][20].…”
