Abstract:Geological materials such as Opalinus Clay show complex coupled hydro-mechanical behavior at laboratory and field scales. In the context of radioactive waste disposal, in-situ excavations might remain open for ventilation and operation for decades and, consequently, be susceptible to environmental changes such as desaturation. The saturation changes can then lead to mechanical deformation and desiccation cracks. To account for desiccation cracking at field scale, this study proposes an unsaturated hydro-mechan… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
