Modeling Turkey National 2D Geo-Data Model as a CityGML Application Domain Extension in UML

Abstract: This paper presents the generation of the 3D national geo-data model of Turkey, which is compatible with the international OGC CityGML Encoding Standard. We prepare an ADE named CityGML-TRKBIS that is produced by extending existing thematic modules of CityGML according to TRKBIS needs. All thematic data groups in TRKBIS geo-data model have been remodeled in order to generate the national large scale 3D geodata model for Turkey. Within the concept of reference model-driven framework for modelling CityGML ADEs i… Show more

“…In a Turkish study, the authors of [43] examined if CityGML ADE extensions can be used to create 3D city models from the Turkish TRKBIS standard for large-scale topographic features. A comparison between CityGML buildings and TRKBIS buildings was performed and a CityGML ADE that includes all additional classes, attributes, and code lists from TRKBIS was developed in UML.…”

“…CityGML is the most comprehensive standard today for the exchange of 3D city models [6]. It includes a well-established building model that can be implemented as is or together with additional information in an ADE (e.g., [4,5,23,24,43,59]). Therefore, it was decided that the proposed national Swedish building standard should use CityGML and that an ADE should be developed as CityGML does not include all the information that the national standard requires.…”

“…Similarly, an extension of CityGML according to the requirements of the Turkish Urban Information System (TRKBIS) has been developed [60,64]. The ADE has been established in UML, with currently available documentation focusing on enhancing the building and trasportation modules.…”

“…The most common open standard for 3D city models is CityGML, developed by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). CityGML is a comparatively thin and generic model, which can be extended for various purposes such as harmonisation with other national standards [1][2][3][4][5][6][7].…”
