Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is caused by the larval form of Echinococcus granulosus that can cause serious health and economic problems in the endemic foci. CE is globally distributed in various climatic conditions from circumpolar to tropical latitudes. Iran is an important endemic area with a spectrum of weather conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of geo-climatic factors on the distribution of livestock CE in south-western Iran (SWI) in 2016 to 2018. Data of livestock CE were retrieved from veterinary organizations of four provinces of SWI. The geo-climatic factors, including mean annual temperature (MAT), minimum MAT (MinMAT), maximum MAT (MaxMAT), mean annual rainfall (MAR), elevation, mean annual evaporation (MAE), sunny hours, wind speed, mean annual humidity (MAH), slope, frost days and land cover, were analysed using geographical information systems (GIS) approaches. The statistical analysis showed that MAR, frost days, elevation, slope and semi-condensed forest land cover were positively and MAE, MAT, MaxMAT, MinMAT and salt and salinity land cover were negatively correlated with CE occurrence. MAE was shown to be a predictive factor in the stepwise linear logistic regression model. In short, the current GIS-based study found that areas with lower evaporation were the main CE risk zones, though those with lower temperature and higher rainfall, altitude and slope, especially where covered with or in close proximity of semi-condensed forest, should be prioritized for consideration by health professionals and veterinarians for conducting control programmes in SWI.

This research was conducted to identify areas of Ardabil province susceptible for Helianthus annuus cultivation. The aim of this study was to identify climatic factors for H. annuus cultivation using TOPSIS method and zoning areas susceptible to cultivating this product using ArcGIS in Ardabil province. In this research, climatic data such as minimum temperature, precipitation, and relative humidity were used along with slope, soil and altitude maps of 10 synoptic stations during 22 years (1994 to 2015). Weighing the layers was carried out using the TOPSIS method and the desirable climatic conditions of the H. annuus product, and a digital map of the data was obtained in the ArcGIS. Positive ideal map, negative ideal and final map of H. annuus cultivation in Ardabil province were prepared by integrating of maps in ArcGIS. The final results showed that about 25.89% of the province's area is without limitation, 22.96% with a low limitation, 26.89% with a moderate limitation, and 24.77% with a severe limitation for H. annuus cultivation. As a result, the cultivation of this product was without limitation in terms of temperature and relative humidity and is faced with limitation in terms of water requirement supply.

This study puts forward a novel approach to identify Parishan Lake drying up roots by studying the dynamic evolutions in the study sub-basin. SPI, extreme climate indices, and several parameters (precipitation, evaporation, and temperature) were employed for 16 years (2002)(2003)(2004)(2005)(2006)(2007)(2008)(2009)(2010)(2011)(2012)(2013)(2014)(2015)(2016)(2017)(2018). To obtain the object of the study, the phase space reconstruction method of delays and chaos theory were applied. Reconstruction of the phase space exposed that some attractors were elliptical shape and some were point. The temperature, evaporation, TXn, and PET suggested periodic time-series. However, TX90p, TX10p, TN10p, and SPI revealed aperiodic time-series, and, RX1day, Rx5day, and precipitation exhibited quasi-periodic behavior in time-series. The trajectory dispersion of all the parameters except TN10p, TX90p, and SPI reflected low chaos, while TN10p, TX90p, and SPI presented random behavior. The phase space behavior of RX1day, Rx5day, TN10p, precipitation, TX90p, and TX10p was nonsinusoidal. By contrast, temperature, evaporation, TXn, PET, and SPI displayed sinusoidal phase space behavior. The findings confirmed that Parishan Lake sub-basin has experienced climate changes which have generated anomalies in climatic and nonclimatic parameters. The comparison between reconstructed phase space of study sub-basin and control sub-basin verified that climate change yielded equal impacts on the study and control sub-basins. As it was highly improbable that the Parishan Lake could be dried up in less than 10 years due to climate change, other affecting factors were also addressed. The findings indicated that excessive groundwater exploitation (as the key factor) increased dryness in the Parishan Lake sub-basin.
