Modelling of Soil Erosion Processes and Runoff for Sustainable Watershed Management: Case Study Oued El Abid Watershed, Morocco

Abstract: The study was carried out in the watershed of Oued El Abid that is located upstream of the Bin El Ouidane Dam in Morocco. Looking for a sustainable watershed management practices, we estimated soil losses from the river basin and the sediment yield deposited in the dam of Bin El Ouidane, using the Intensity of Erosion and Outflow-IntErO model, based on the Erosion Potential Method-EPM. The watershed of the lake receiving the waters and sediments from the two mean water courses Oued El Abid and Assif Ahansal, t… Show more

“…1) is located in the province of Beni-Mellal. It is crossed from East to West by the Oum-er-Rbia River with 160 km of length, which divides it into two large hydraulically independent irrigated perimeters: the perimeter of Beni-Amir and the perimeter of Beni-Moussa, respectively, on the right bank and left of the Oum-er-Rbia (Didi et al 2019;El Mouatassime et al 2019).…”

“…Priorities and requirements for rural development are protecting environmental policy, meeting market requirements, ensuring adequate food quality and protection. The main factors having impact on rural development are for instance, impact of technologies, development of domestic and foreign markets, benefits in communication and transport and migration of the population (El Mouatassime et al, 2019;Parsipour et al, 2019). Three key areas are important in rural development policy: the agri-food sector, the rural economy together with the rural population and the environment.…”

“…The Erosion Potential Method (EPM) is a model for estimating water erosion, based on simple and low-cost obtaining parameters (Gavrilovic, 1962). EPM has been widely used in the South East European regions, Italy, the Middle East, and North Africa (El Mouatassime et al, 2019;Stefanidis and Stathis, 2018;Nikolic et al, 2018;Darvishan et al, 2017;Dragicevic et al, 2017;). It has also been recognized as the most quantitative of all the semiquantitative models (De Vente et al, 2005).…”
