Modelling the Conditions Affecting Population Migration Activity in the Eastern European Region: The Case of Ukraine

Abstract: This paper presents the authors’ algorithm for estimating the conditions affecting population migration activity in the Eastern European region (on the example of Ukraine), which includes selection of indicators, determination of indicators’ weights in a group, calculation of weighted multidimensional values by each group, determination of the weights of indicators’ groups in the integral index, estimation of the calculation reliability, construction of the integral index and its interpretation. The concept of… Show more

Migrāciju ietekmējošie apstākļi, atbilstoši izvēlētajai metodoloģijai (Levytska et al, 2020), tika iedalīti stimulējošos un bremzējošos.…”

“…StimulējošaŅemot vērā izvēlēto migrāciju ietekmējošo rādītāju izmaiņas 2005.-2019.gadā Latvijas statistiskajos reģionos, katrs no šiem rādītājiem tika standartizēts, lai varētu nodrošināt to savstarpējo turpmāku salīdzināšanu, izmantojot(Levytska et al, 2020) 1.formulu un 2.formulu.…”

“…Scholars have paid great attention to the research on the spatial behavior of population mobility and have made a lot of achievements in the macro pattern and micro location characteristics of population flow and the reasons for their appearance. In terms of theoretical research, laws of migration [3], push-pull theory [4], the gravity model [5,6], and the life cycle-mobility model [7] have been put forward; in terms of empirical research, scholars have conducted extensive case studies on the spatial pattern [8,9], characteristics [10,11], causes [12,13] and influencing factors [14][15][16][17], network complexity [18][19][20], relationship of the population migration and urbanization [21,22] with the regional economic development [23][24][25], population policy response and spatial planning strategy [26,27], and other areas.…”

“…Recent scientific and applied developments on the assessment of migration impact on social and economic development of different regions (Wills et al, 2009;Rahman, 2013;Levytska et al, 2020; still do not allow the causes of the social and economic development of regions and population migration to be fully and directly analysed and calculated. Nor can they discern the influence (both direct and reverse) that migration has on certain indicators of social and economic development and vice versa; and nor can they identify time lags (periods, intervals) with which the strongest mutual relationships (both positive and negative) between migration and regional development are observed.…”
