Modelling the effects of optical vibrations on photon beam parameters using ray-tracing software

Abstract: A method to simulate beam properties observed at the beamline sample-point in the presence of motion of optical components has been developed at Diamond Light Source. A series of stationary ray-tracing simulations are used to model the impact on the beam stability caused by dynamic motion of optical elements. Ray-tracing simulations using SHADOW3 in OASYS, completed over multiple iterations and stitched together, permit the modelling of a pseudo-dynamic beamline. As beamline detectors operating at higher frequ… Show more

“…However, further progress requires extreme stability of experimental setup and vibration is often a problem causing poor quality of photon beams [3]. Therefore, vibration measurement, analysis, and control at long synchrotron beamlines is crucial for the full realisation of potential offered by fourth generation storage rings [4].…”

“…When this scheme is implemented, the 𝑂𝐸 𝑠 in the beamline must be adjusted sequentially, which is very time-consuming and cannot guarantee to get the ideal focusing quality at the sampling point. Recently, C. Houghton et al developed a scheme to simulate the effect of the dynamic movement of 𝑂𝐸 𝑠 on beam stability [6]. This method uses 𝑆𝐻 π΄π·π‘‚π‘Š3 in 𝑂 π΄π‘†π‘Œ 𝑆 [7] for ray-tracing simulation, depending on multiple iterations and stitching, which is very complicated and cannot quickly obtain ideal optical characteristics at the sample point.…”
