Modestobacter roseus sp. nov., an endophytic actinomycete isolated from the coastal halophyte Salicornia europaea Linn., and emended description of the genus Modestobacter

Abstract: Modestobacter roseus sp. nov., an endophytic actinomycete isolated from the coastal halophyte Salicornia europaea Linn., and emended description of the genus Modestobacter Chemotaxonomic characteristics were consistent with its assignment to the genus Modestobacter in that the isolate had meso-diaminopimelic acid as the diagnostic diamino acid in the cell wall, MK-9(H 4 ) as major menaquinone and a polar lipid profile containing diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylinositol, phosphatid… Show more

“…For example, strain KLBMP 1279 shared 99.5% 16S rRNA gene sequence identity to Modestobacter marinus 42H12-1 T , a marine obtained actinobacterium isolated from a deep-sea sediment sample (2,983 m depth) from the Atlantic Ocean (Xiao et al, 2011). However, KLBMP 1279 exhibited culture characteristics differing from M. marinus and thus represents a new Modestobacter species, named as Modestobacter roseus (Qin et al, 2013b). Moreover, several strains exhibited relatively lower 16S rRNA gene identities (<98.7%) to characterized isolates and represented novel species (Table 3).…”

“…The genus Modestobacter belongs to the family Geodermatophilaceae [ 43 , 44 ] of the order Geodermatophilales [ 45 ]. Like other strains of the order Geodermatophiles , the genus Modestobacter tend to be associated with extreme biomes, including deteriorated sandstone [ 38 ], desert plateau [ 39 ], deep-sea sediment [ 46 ] and coastal halophytes [ 47 ]. The present study reports the isolation of a Modestobacter strain from a eutrophic lake located in Yunnan, China.…”

“…A few reports are available on the isolation and characterization of endophytic actinobacteria. A novel isolate, Modestobacter roseus KLBMP 1279 T , was obtained from the roots of Salicornia europaea , a halophyte of coastal region of Jiangsu Province, China (Qin et al, 2013a ). A novel endophytic actinobacterium, Okibacterium endophyticum , capable of growth at high salt concentration (upto 7% NaCl) and at high pH was reported to be inhabitant of the roots of the halophyte Salsola affinis (Wang et al, 2015c ).…”
