Modified Glomerular Filtration Rate-Estimating Equations Developed in Asiatic Population for Chinese Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract: Objectives. To evaluate eight modified equations developed in Asiatic populations in type 2 diabetic patients in China. Methods. A total of 209 Chinese patients with type 2 diabetes were recruited. Using the technetium—99m diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid—glomerular filtration rate (GFR) to act as the reference, comparisons of their efficiency to estimate GFR in the subjects were made between various equations. Results. Median of difference of the Chinese equation 1 was the lowest (median of difference, 0.51… Show more

“…Fasting insulin was determined by RIA (Linco Research, St. Charles, MO). The homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated according to the equation described by Matthews et al [ 23 ] The abbreviated Modification of Diet in Renal Disease formula recalibrated for Chinese was used to estimate glomerular filtration rate expressed in milliliters per minute per 1.73 m 2 : estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) = 186 × [serum creatinine × 0.011] -1.154 × [age] -0.203 × [0.742 if female] × 1.233, where serum creatinine is expressed as micromoles per liter and 1.233 is the adjusting coefficient for Chinese [ 24 ].…”

“…Staging of CKD was based on the Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality Initiative (K/DOQI) guidelines: ≥90 (CKD1), 60-89 (CKD2), 30-59 (CKD3), 15-29 (CKD4) and <15 (CKD5) ml / min 1.73 m 2 . Creatinine clearance (CCr) was determined using the (CKD-EPI) equation formula to define renal failure [12][13][14] …”
