Modified Graphene-FEVE Composite Coatings: Application in the Repair of Ancient Architectural Color Paintings

Abstract: In recent years, based on the urgent need in the field of cultural heritage conservation, the research and development of coatings have attracted much attention. FEVE (trifluorovinyl chloride and vinyl ether copolymer) is one of the reinforcing materials in the protective coatings of color paint. However, it has problems such as compactness, low tensile strength, and poor resistance to aging. Therefore, modified graphene was introduced and combined with FEVE coatings (FEVE/m-GO) to optimize their adhesion, com… Show more

“…Colorimetric measurements were carried out to determine L*, a*, and b* coordinate color space values for the untreated paper and those coated with the CH microemulsion (Table 2) using the X-Rite VS450 spectrophotometer (Aiselei (Shanghai) Color Technology Co., Ltd, Shanghai, China). Triplicate measurements were performed for each sample [36], and the color differences (∆E) were determined before and after treatment. The CIE whiteness index was determined according to the standard GB/T 22880-2008 [37].…”

“…Recently, nanocomposite coatings based on fluoroethylene/vinyl ether copolymer (FEVE) have gained popularity in various fields, including aerospace, marine, architecture, automotive, and heavy-duty industrial applications. [1][2][3][4] This is because of the numerous advantages offered by FEVE, including excellent resistance to weather and chemicals, superhydrophobic and highly oleophobic properties, good electrical insulation, high anti-corrosion protection, and a long service life. 1,[5][6][7][8] FEVE is a copolymer composed of fluoroethylene (FE) and vinyl ether (VE) monomers, which combines the characteristics of both fluoropolymers and hydrocarbons.…”
