“…However, the high temperatures and blowholes generated by the hydration reaction have limited the use and development of SCDAs. Calcium oxide (CaO) is the main ingredient of SCDAs (with a content of about 80-95%) [14][15][16], which generates a large amount of heat during the hydration reaction. If excessive heat is accumulated in the slurry and not released in time, it can easily cause violent reactions during the test, damaging the strain gauges or creating blowholes.…”

“…SCDA is an expansive powdery cementitious material, and its application involves mixing it with water prior to injecting it into boreholes drilled in rock. SCDA has been modified for improved workability, washout resistance and setting time by mixing it with various admixtures, and it can be used in underground rock fragmentation applications below the water table (De Silva et al 2018aManatunga et al 2021). The modified SCDA is known as Slow-Releasing Energy Material (SREMA), which consists of diutan gum (a viscosifier) and polycarboxylate ether (superplasticizer), enhances rheological properties and washout resistance of SCDA (Manatunga et al 2022).…”

“…The feasibility of SCDAs in the demolition industry has been fully proved. CaO is the component with the highest proportion of SCDAs, which results in the volumetric expansion as an impact of the hydration products 19–21 . MgO, Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , etc., as the minor constituents, are used to improve the performance of SCDAs 13 .…”

[19][20][21] MgO, Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , etc., as the minor constituents, are used to improve the performance of SCDAs. 13 After the mixed slurry is poured into the hole, the increasing self-expansion is constrained by the medium around the hole.…”
