Modular Flow-Through Platform for Spectroelectrochemical Analysis

Abstract: A new type of flow platform for electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical measurements is presented. Finite element method simulations confirm that the hydrodynamic profile within the device is not turbulent and provides an analytical platform for the investigation of homogeneous kinetics, radical lifetimes, and reaction mechanisms. The modular "plug and play" configuration of the platform allows one to carry out electrochemistry and spectroscopy individually or simultaneously. Specific demonstrations of elec… Show more

“…This ensures that a random air-bubble will not block or significantly interfere with the measurement. The reference electrode is mounted through a hole in the flangeless screw at the outlet of the cell, as previous works 8,22 showed the importance of positioning the reference electrode downstream to prevent fouling of the fluent by the reference. A COMSOL simulation was also conducted to ensure the flow inside the cell was laminar (Figure S4).…”

“…Thus, two main advantages are obtained: a very high reproducibility and a high efficiency in the rate of mass transport. Some nice examples can be found in literature that were applied to the determination of iron compounds , cadmium , chlorpromazine and promethazine , among others .…”

“…SEC in general, and UV/Vis-SEC in particular, is a group of instrumental techniques commonly used in the characterization of new materials and/or molecules, in the study of electron transfer processes, or in the study of reaction mechanisms [6,[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21][22]. However, the great potential of these multi-response techniques for quantitative analysis has not been enough explored [1,2,4,5,12,[23][24][25][26]. Among all SEC techniques, the coupling of electrochemistry and UV/Vis absorption spectroscopy is the most successful one in the field of electroanalysis.…”
