Modular scaffolding by lncRNA HOXA10-AS promotes oral cancer progression

Abstract: Recent findings have implicated long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) as pivotal gene regulators for diverse biological processes, despite their lack of protein-coding capabilities. Accumulating evidence suggests the significance of lncRNAs in mediating cell signaling pathways, especially those associated with tumorigenesis. Consequently, lncRNAs have emerged as novel functional regulators and indicators of cancer development and malignancy. Recent transcriptomic profiling has recognized a tumor-biased expressed lncRN… Show more

“…In other cases, for instance, in Beat-Va M neurons, Abd-B expression clearly does not regulate cell death at all, presumably because pro-or anti-apoptotic functions of Abd-B are regulated by cell type-specific co-factors. Finally, additional studies of the Abd-B ortholog, HOXA10A, have revealed that hox genes can modify cell death through production of long non-coding RNAs and other post transcriptional modifications during cancer metastasis (Chen, Kan et al 2022). Whether and how these mechanisms might relate to the role of Abd-B in driving segment-specific cell death is an interesting question for the future.…”

“…Other lncRNAs can promote the miRNA-induced silencing complex (mi-RISC) to repress translation of mRNAs. LncRNAs also can act as scaffolds for some proteins to modify transcriptional or posttranscriptional complexes for regulating gene expression [31]. Other lncRNAs can bind to specific proteins to regulate translation and posttranslational modification [32,33].…”

“…Consequently, dysregulated lncRNAs hold potential as prognostic biomarkers for tumors [ 30 ]. Numerous studies have highlighted the significant roles of lncRNAs in cancer development, such as MALAT1 in LUAD [ 31 ], RMRP in bladder cancer [ 32 ], TLNC1 in liver cancer [ 33 ], and HOXA10-AS in oral cancer [ 34 ]. Given the pivotal functions of lncRNAs in tumors, they represent promising targets for precision tumor therapy.…”
