Modulation Error Ratio Degradation Due to Error Sources Existing in a DRM Transmitter Using Envelope Elimination and Restoration

Abstract: This paper aims to study the effects of three error sources on the modulation error ratio for a DRM broadcast system which uses an EER based power amplifier. The considered error sources are a) clipping and quantization of the envelope signal before digital to analog conversion, b) limiting the bandwidth of the envelope signal, and c) the time mismatch between the envelope and modulated phase signals. The study is based on the simulation results of a DRM broadcast system which is modeled by using SIMULINK.Inde… Show more

“…The MER is also an important indicator to evaluate the quality of a communication system, and it can well reflect the ability of digital receivers in restoring transmitted data [ 31 ]. The MER is measured using the ratio between the average signal power and the average error power [ 32 ], and is defined in dB as follows …”

“…The MER is used as the indicator to assess the capability of the Tx or the Rx in communication systems based on highorder digital modulation formats 24,25 . The MER is measured using the ratio between the average signal constellation power and the average constellation error power.…”

“…A primary simulation for MER of DRM signals with EER transmitter can be found in [5], the simulation is limited to MER performance evaluation and it didn't consider the impact introduced by DC component offset. In practical, besides MER, it is necessary to evaluate the effect of Out of Band Emission (OBE), especially the emission around the transmit channel.…”
