In this study, the objectives were: 1) determine the effect of 1% salt overload on blood pressure and related variables controlling water in male and female mice, 2) to compare the effects of salt overload on vascular remodeling of elastic arteries and strength in both males and females. To this end, we used C57BL / 6 males and females treated for 2 or 12 weeks with 1% NaCl solution for drinking or fresh water (control group). Analyses morphometry body control fluid and electrolyte control hemodynamic and vascular remodeling. We observed results as: 1) increased body weight in male and 2) the increase in cardiac mass especially in females and increase renal mass in both males and females, and 3) the increase in water intake and excretion of urine, concomitant with increased concentration of urinary electrolytes and maintenance of serum electrolytes; 4) the increase in proteinuria, with no significant changes in creatinine clearance, 5) changes in the structure of the arterial wall, especially in the collagen matrix, even without modification blood pressure.
