Modulation of Natural Killer Cell Activity, Antibody-Dependent Cellular Cytotoxicity, and Antibody-Dependent Complement-Mediated Cytotoxicity by Andrographolide in Normal and Ehrlich Ascites Carcinoma-Bearing Mice

Abstract: Modulation of immune responses is highly relevant in tumor cell destruction. The present study is focused on the effect of Andrographis paniculata extract (APE) and its isolated compound andrographolide (ANDLE) on cellmediated immune responses in normal and tumor-bearing control animals. Treatment with APE and ANDLE significantly enhanced natural killer cell activity in normal (APE, 46.82% cell lysis; ANDLE, 40.79% cell lysis) and tumor-bearing animals (APE, 48.66% cell lysis; ANDLE, 42.19% cell lysis) on the … Show more

“…For example, Evodiamine, a major constituent of the Chinese herb Evodiae fructus, possesses anticancer activities both in vitro and in vivo by inhibiting proliferation, invasion, and metastasis, inducing apoptosis of a variety of tumor cell lines [15]; Triptolide, a diterpene triepoxide, was isolated from Tripterygium wilfordii, and its semisynthetic analog, PG490-88 (12, 14-succinyl triptolide sodium salt), exerts antiproliferative and pro-apoptotic activities on primary human prostatic epithelial cells as well as tumor regression of colon and lung xenografts [29]. In a National Cooperative Drug Discovery Group Project, Dr. Kinghorn and his group have taken an extensive investigation on thousands of plants to determine the effect of extracts of plants, Not specified Andrographolide Andrographis paniculata PC-3; K-562 Up-regulated bax; down-regulated bcl-2; inhibited expression of VEGF [163] Enhanced natural killer cell activity in normal and tumor-bearing animals [164] Artesunate (ART)…”

“…Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata) a promising medicinal plant has been scientifically validated to exhibit functions such as antiinflammaotry, immunomodulator (Sheeja & Kuttan, 2007;Abu-Ghefreh et al, 2009;Wang et al, 2010;Shen et al, 2013;Gao & Wang, 2016). Toll like receptors (TLRs) are innate immune receptors and induce fast and appropriate host defence reaction against pathogens.…”
