Molybdenum complexes with a μ-O{MoO2}2 core: their synthesis, crystal structure and application as catalysts for the oxidation of bicyclic alcohols using N-based additives

Abstract: Binuclear molybdenum(vi) complexes with a μ-O{MoO2}2 core as catalysts for the oxidation of bicyclic alcohols (fenchyl alcohol and isoborneol), using 30% H2O2 as the oxidant in the presence of NEt3 as the additive, are reported.

“…1(a)- (c)] have been reported with hydrazone based dibasic tridentate ligands. 16,20,21 One more category that is closer to type (c) of Fig. 1 may also be considered, wherein an additional coordinating group like pyridine that is present within the ligand interacts with the Mo centre of the dioxidomolybdenum(VI) complex and facilitates an oligomeric structure.…”

“…Recently, several Schiff base molybdenum(VI) complexes have been developed and used as catalysts for various oxygen atom transfer reactions, such as olefins epoxidation, 29–31 sulfides oxidation, 32 and alcohols oxidation 33 . Regarding alcohol oxidations, various Schiff base molybdenum complexes, such as magnetic complex, 34 Mo−V bimetallic complex, 35 and μ ‐O{MoO 2 } 2 core complex, 36 have been evaluated in alcohol oxidation with TBHP or H 2 O 2 as oxidants yielding the corresponding aldehydes or ketones. Nevertheless, dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes 37,38 and peroxo‐molybdenum(VI) complexes 39,40 have been used for olefin epoxidation but not been fully exploited as catalysts in alcohols oxidation.…”
