Monanchocidin A From Subarctic Sponges of the Genus Monanchora and Their Promising Selectivity Against Melanoma in vitro

Abstract: Marine sources have long been known for their potential to produce unique skeletons and various biological activities. Fractionation of the ethanol extracts of an undescribed species of Monanchora Carter, 1883 and a specimen closely comparable to Monanchora pulchra (Lambe, 1894/1895) (Class Demospongiae, Order Poecilosclerida, Family Crambeidae), yielded a known compound, monanchocidin A. Monanchocidin A, a secondary metabolite, showed very modest antibacterial, antifungal, and antiprotozoal activities with IC… Show more

“…Guanidine, an alkaloid that has cytotoxic properties and prevents EGF-Induced Neoplastic was isolated from Monachora pulchra (Dyshlovoy et al 2016). Gogineni et al (2020) A total of 3 fungal isolates were obtained from the Monanchora sponge. The small number of fungi isolated from Monanchora sp.…”

“…Guanidinederived alkaloids (Dyshlovoy et al 2016), showing the wide scope of biological activities, e.i. anti-parasitic (Santos et al 2015), anticancer and antibacterial (Gogineni et al 2020), antiviral (Hua et al 2007), antifungal (Arevabini et al 2014), andcytotoxic (El-Demerdash et al 2016). The potential sources of natural products in Indonesia so far have not been well explored.…”

“…Monanchocidin-A is a novel compound derived from sponges closely related to Monanchora species [ 62 ]. It has been tested in vitro using the NCI-60 Human Tumor Cell Lines Screen to investigate its potential anti-cancer activity.…”

“…The NCI-60 screen provided 60 cell cancer lines to evaluate the dose-response created by a particular drug, thus comparing and selecting compounds that are most selectively for cancer lines ( ; accessed on 14 July 2022). The melanoma cell lines used for the screening were LOX IMVI, MALME-3M, M14, MDA-MB-435, SK-MEL-2, SK-MEL-28, SK-MEL-5, UACC257, and UACC-62 [ 62 ]. This research demonstrated Monanchocidin-A anticancer potential, indicating a peculiar activity against melanoma cell lines [ 62 ].…”

“…Однако наиболее интересным в данном исследовании было открытие, что монанхоцидин избирательно ингибирует опухолевые клетки опасного ракового заболевания -меланомы. Все линии клеток меланомы демонстрировали чувствительность к действию этого вещества, показывая ингибирующую активность, при этом его ингибирующая активность на этих клетках превышала активность известного противоракового лекарства «Таксол» [5].…”
