“…Statutory marketing arrangements for agricultural commodities have been removed (Cockfield, 1997; Cockfield & Botterill, 2013) and the state has retreated from the provision of extension and advisory services to agricultural producers (Marsh & Pannell, 2000; Nettle, Crawford, & Brightling, 2018). In response, there has been a growing “professionalization” of agriculture and reliance on market services (i.e., services that are sold commercially) to sustain and grow agricultural production (Alston, Clarke, & Whittenbury, 2017; Foltz, Lanclos, Guenthner, Makus, & Sanchez, 1996; Hilkens, Reid, Klerkx, & Gray, 2018).
