Monitoring of the medication distribution and the refrigeration temperature in a pharmacy based on Internet of Things (IoT) technology

Abstract: For the past 15 years since its appearance, Internet of Things (IoT) technology has been leading the planet towards a smart world where all devices and physical objects, referred to as "things", will be connected via electronic sensors through the Internet. The distribution of medication to patients at a pharmacy in certain regions is still very traditional and outdated. Patients wait for a long time in queues to receive their medications, this is mostly due to the absence of an efficient distribution system. … Show more

“…Since all things in the system are well-connected and communicate with each other and perform seamless integration under cyber-physical interface through IoT [49]. An IoT system is made up of a number of components, including processes, security, business models, a network of connections, and announcements [50,51]. Various other factors, such as extensibility, scalability, and interoperability, play a significant role while designing the IoT architecture and in the smooth transition and integration of heterogeneous network devices under supply chain management [52,53].…”

“…The authors used a web-based interface along with a virtual network to monitor the container and its essential control parameters using the data received by sensor nodes. Mambou et al [3] developed a simple and powerful monitoring system for pharmacy stores using sensors to control the refrigeration temperature and medication search. The authors claimed their sensorbased approach is cheaper than software-based system and useful for deprived area.…”

“…WSNs provide us with the information used by the IoT. They are typically in control for monitoring and keeping track of the physical or climate status, and for linking the gathered information to a centralised position [10], [11]. This means that WSNs are a collector and provider of data, while the IoT is the central location that intelligently analyses the data gathered using the Internet and presents the information for human accessibility.…”
