“…Traditionally, monkeypox lesions have been limited to the skin; however, during the present outbreak, affected patients have increasingly reported proctitis, a manifestation not commonly observed with monkeypox in previous years [34]. According to several reports, proctitis could be present in approximately 14% of the patients; however, its frequency has been reported to be as high as 25% in Spain [35], and it could be even the initial symptom in affected people [36][37][38]. We believe that it is crucial for clinicians to be aware of monkeypox proctitis to assure the proper identi cation, treatment, and isolation of cases, with the ultimate goal of limiting the spread of this disease.…”

Given rapid improvement with treatment, also anecdotally reported in other settings, 8 we recommend considering treatment early to hopefully alleviate symptoms and prevent progression, while awaiting results of more conclusive trials.…”
