Monosomic Analysis of Leaf Rust Reaction, Awnedness, Winter Injury and Seed Color in Pawnee Wheat1

Abstract: HE: use of monosomic plants offers a special method of cies. Investigations utilizing monosomic types in common wheat. Triticum vulgare Vill., were initiated at Kansas State College in 1947. This report deals .with the results of crosses with 16 different monosomics of Chinese spring wheat crossed to Pawnee winter wheat for a study of the inheritance of leaf rust reaction, awn expression, winter injury, and seed color.

“…770 (SINGH and SWAMINATHAN 1960). The usefulness of aneuploids in determining the mode of inheritance of rust resistance in varieties of bread wheat has already been demonstrated by various workers (HEYNE and LIVERS 1953;PLESSERS 1954;RonENHISER 1948 andSEARS et al 1957, etc.). The present study was hence undertaken to locate, by monosomic analysis, the chromosome or chromosomes of the wheat variety Yaqui-53 (E. 2842) on which genes for resistance to some races of stem rust are situated.…”
