Montmorillonite-stabilized gold nanoparticles for nitrophenol reduction

Abstract: Two gold-based catalysts were obtained by Au chemical reduction of the HAuCl 4 precursor. The resulting nanoparticles were stabilized and immobilized on montmorillonite (Mt) and montmorillonite-ceria (Mt/CeO 2 ). All prepared catalysts were active in 4-nitrophenol to aminophenol reduction at room temperature. Synergy between montmorillonite and ceria is postulated in such a way that the montmorillonite phase hinders particle growth either by influencing the nucleation behavior of gold or by increasing the numb… Show more

“…The utility of mont as a support for metal nanoparticles has also attracted attention for the design of highperformance catalysts. Mont-supported metal catalysts exhibit properties different from those of other catalyst supports, such as the combined effect of the solid acidity of mont and the supported metal [62,63] and the stabilizing effect of metal particles in the interlayer [64][65][66].…”

“…This is a green strategy for water purication. Other materials, such as noble metal nanoparticles (Ag, Pd), [17][18][19] nanocomposites, 20,21 carbonaceous materials 22 and enzymes, 23 can also be used as catalysts for the hydrogenation of nitroaromatics. Among the many catalyst candidates, AuNPs are one of the most promising catalytic materials due to their simple preparation procedure and powerful catalytic activity.…”
