Morphometric Study of the Trachea in Korean

Abstract: (Table 7). 참 고 문 헌 Abstract : This morphometric study of the trachea was performed to provide the basic data necessary for shielding crico-thyroid membrane incision, tracheal intubation and tracheotomy in korean bodies 48 (33 male, 15 female). Tracheal measurement included the number, the length, the anteroposterior and transverse diameters of trachea, and the height of tracheal cartilages, and the inter-rings distances of cartilages. The length of trachea was 104.0±1.4 mm in male and 102.3±1.9 mm in female, bu… Show more

“…Measuring the dimensions of the trachea and the subglottic area helps the surgeons and anesthesiologist to conduct some maneuvers like endotracheal intubation and diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures with skill, less risk, and perfection. Though the studies measuring these tracheal dimensions are sparse [8][9][10]12] and not correlate the measures with those of subglottic area, and some was done on cadavers [12,16] that is appeared to be completely different from measurement in the living subjects.…”

“…In addition to the variations in the tracheal dimensions between individuals of the same age group, in different age groups and in different gender [7][8][9][10][11][12][13], there is broad variations in the described tracheal dimensions by different authors and in different textbooks from different regions and in different journals [14,15]. Gray's anatomy by Standring states that the external transverse diameter of the adult trachea is 20 mm in male and 15 mm in female; lumen has an average transverse diameter of 12 mm [15], while in the textbook Principles of Surgery, Schwartz mentioned that the trachea has a 18 mm anteroposterior diameter and 23 mm transverse diameter [14].…”

“…The trachea model used in this study was designed based on anatomical dimensions obtained from morphometric studies of Korean cadavers (16,17) and computed tomography scans from New Zealand subjects. (18) The average dimensions of male subjects were used with a trachea length of 104 mm and anteroposterior diameter of 23 mm and a transverse diameter of 19 mm, as given in Figure 3.…”

“…[13] Ligamentin vertikal uzunluğu ise Kim ve ark. [14] tarafından trakeal halka ve halkalar arası ölçtükleri uzunlukluklar göz önüne alınarak kadınlarda ortalama 11.4 mm erkeklede ise 14.1 mm olarak hesaplanmıştır. Diğer yandan RLS ile Berry ligamentinin topografik ilişkisi bölgeye hangi konumdan bakıldığına göre farklı bir şekilde ifade edilebilir.…”
