Mucilaginibacter pedocola sp. nov., isolated from a heavy-metal-contaminated paddy field

Abstract: Strain TBZ30T was isolated from soil of a heavy-metal-contaminated paddy field. Cells of strain TBZ30T were Gram-staining-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile and non-spore-forming. The isolate was strictly aerobic, pink-pigmented, catalase- and oxidase-positive and produced exopolysaccharides. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene phylogeny, strain TBZ30T belonged to the genus Mucilaginibacter and appeared most closely related to Mucilaginibacter gynuensis YC7003T (95.8 %), Mucilaginibacter litoreus BR-18T (95.4 %) and M… Show more

“…Table 2 Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of strains to Zn (II) , As (III) , Cd (II) and Cu (II) Optimal growth occurred in absence of further NaCl, but the strains could still grow in R2A with up to 1.5% NaCl added. These characteristics are consistent with description of the genus Mucilaginibacter [34][35][36] . Medium pH for optimal growth (~pH 5.0) and pH tolerance (pH 5.0-9.0) varied slightly between the four strains ( Table 3).…”

“…Mucilaginibacter pedocola TBZ30 T (= CCTCC AB 2015301 T = KCTC 42833 T ) was isolated from a heavy metal contaminated paddy field in Hunan Province, P. R. China [ 5 ]. Here we show that strain TBZ30 T is resistant to multiple heavy metals and remove Zn 2+ and Cd 2+ .…”

“…Colonies are circular, pink, convex and smooth on R2A agar. Growth occurs aerobically at 4–28 °C (optimum, 25 °C), pH 5.0–8.5 (optimum, pH 7.0), and in the presence of 0–1.0 ( w / v ) NaCl (optimum, without NaCl) (Table 1 ) [ 5 ]. Oxidase- and catalase-positive [ 5 ].…”
