“…A common approach to investigate the adsorption behavior of materials containing activated carbon is the use of methylene blue (MB) as model organic dye . As the adsorption behavior of MB is highly sensitive to pH and ionic strength due to its cationic nature and due to the well‐known possible effects of pH‐value and ionic strength on the adsorption behavior of activated carbon, the pH‐value was fixed to pH 7–8 by using deionized water as described in Section . For a later application of the developed supraparticles in waste water, no such adaption of pH value and ionic strength would be possible due to the vast amounts of chemicals that would be necessary.…”

“…For this purpose, the model organic dye methylene blue (MB) was used, which is a common approach to evaluate the adsorption behavior of carbons toward organic pollutants in water . Because it is well known that MB is a cationic dye whose adsorption is highly sensitive to both pH and ionic strength, we decided to fix these parameters by working in the conditions detailed in the Experimental Section, using a mixture of deionized water and ethanol (water:ethanol = 9:1) (pH 7–8). Figure depicts the adsorption kinetics and the adsorption isotherm of the carbon‐coated particles.…”

“…The excellent adsorption performance of PANI/PSMA toward anionic dyes could be attributed to the strong interactions between the positively charged amino groups in PANI/PSMA and negatively charged SO 3 − groups in the anionic dyes. In contrast, MB and MV molecules contain positively charged amino groups, which electrostatically repulse PANI/PSMA, resulting in a poor adsorption performance [32].…”
