Multi-objective, multi-period optimization of district energy systems: Networks design

Abstract: A systematic procedure, including process design and integration techniques for designing district heating networks (DHN) is presented in this paper. In the developed model a simultaneous multi objectives and multi-period optimization is principally investigated. The proposed method helps the decision maker to decide; which type and configuration of poly-generation technologies, centralized or decentralized, are best suited for the district, where in the district shall these equipments be implemented (geograph… Show more

“…An inter‐cluster network optimization is performed in a second step. In References 69,72,140*, EAs (Evolutionary Algorithms) are used for investment decisions coupled to slaves modules. The first module is a thermo‐economic simulation model that compute parameters including operation expenses, emissions, technical constraints and reference stream values.…”

“…The simulations are performed on an IEEE benchmark LV network (Figure 2) proposed by the CIGRE research group [15]. The different building and DER models developed by the authors of [3], [9], [17] and [18] have been implemented in the following simulations; each building represents an integrated set of energy conversion and storage units to satisfy the different services (i.e. domestic hot water preparation, space heating and power provision).…”

“…Solar integration with industrial processes by means of pinch analysis was addressed by several authors [2,[22][23][24][25]. In all cases the importance of process integration and pinch analysis for solar utility integration was considered.…”

“…• A multi-period MILP approach is chosen, which has been applied by other authors [19,21,25], but is extended to account for the specific characteristics of solar utilities and contains ε-constraints.…”
