“…It is well established that performance of BI system largely depends on the characteristics of isolator parameters, such as yield strength for the LRBs, optimal damping for Resilient Friction Bearing and optimal friction for friction pendulum isolator. Ranges of optimal parameters have been suggested by investigators (Baratta & Corbi, 2004;Jangid, 2007Jangid, , 2010Li & Ni, 2007;Pourzeynali & Zarif, 2008;Zhou, Wen, & Cai, 2006) for these systems to ensure best performance.…”

“…More specifically, a number of papers have appeared, in which the detection of optimum properties for base isolation systems is addressed [10][11][12][13][14]. Previous research efforts on formulating design optimization problems for seismically isolated buildings have been typically concerned with base isolation only.…”

“…Building A is a sixstorey shear building as discussed in Arfiadi andHadi (2001, 2011), and Building B is a six-storey building as discussed in Sadek et al (1997). The structures are considered as linear systems, similar to Pourzeynali, Lavasani, and Modarayi (2007), Pourzeynali and Zarif (2008), Shayeghi, Eimani Kalasar, and Shayeghi (2009) and Arfiadi and Hadi (2011). The adjacent buildings are Q1 subjected to the 1940 El Centro (117 El Centro Array-9 station) and the 1995 Kobe (KJMA station) excitations, where the maximum ground acceleration scaled to 0.3 g for 1940 El Centro NS and 0.8 g for 1995 Kobe NS.…”
