Purpose This study aims to present a study on the supply chain process of a Myanmar-based pharmaceutical company (named ABC Pvt. Ltd. in this study) that produces pharmaceutical products across Myanmar and aims of bringing quality medical products and best care for Myanmar people’s health. The study aims to identify the key supply chain challenges and manage the opportunities executed by this pharmaceutical company to improve the supply chain process during the COVID-19 outbreak. Design/methodology/approach This work used a case study and conducted semistructured interviews with the manager, senior managers and senior staff of the ABC Company to improve the supply chain process and develop a comprehensive structural relationship to rank them to streamline the uncertainties, real-time information and agility in a digital supply chain using grey relational analysis (GRA) method. Findings From the data analysis and results, “Impact of political factor,” “Delay in import process” and “Weak internet connection,” and “Weak knowledge of the use of digital platform,” “Poor information sharing in online by employees” and “Information flow from top management to operational level” have been identified as top and bottom three key challenges, respectively. “Inventory management,” “Selection of transport method” and “Operational cost”, and “Marketing and brand Innovation,” “Online delivery of products” and “E-commerce enablement (Launching applications, tracking system)” are identified as the top and bottom three managing the opportunities, respectively. Research limitations/implications The findings of the study help to supply chain decision-makers of the company in their establishment of key challenges and opportunities during the COVID-19 era. As a leading company, it always tries to add value to its product through a supply chain system, effective management teams and working with skillful decision-making toward satisfying the demand on time and monitoring the supplier performance. Originality/value The novelty of this study is to identify the key supply chain challenges and opportunities by the GRA method to rank them, considering the case of Myanmar pharmaceutical manufacturing company as a case-based approach to measuring its performance during the COVID-19 outbreak era. This work will assist managers and practitioners help to the company to provide optimal services to its consumers on time in this critical situation.

PurposeSmart furniture is an essential part of research that has been designed to best complement easy and safe human interaction. The purpose of smart furniture is to save the space of the house and make the products unique, awesome and safe, functional, strong and also make it works better so the people can live better with it. This research aims to explore the key supply chain strategies implemented by the Indian smart furniture industry to reduce the impact of a post-COVID-19 pandemic.Design/methodology/approachThis work utilized a case study and conducted semi-structured interviews with the top leadership of the smart furniture manufacturing industry to explore key supply chain strategies to reduce the influence of the post-COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, key supply chain strategies have been analyzed using a multi-criteria decision-making technique known as grey relational analysis (GRA) to determine their ranking significance in the smart furniture industry.FindingsThe results of this study discovered that “Inventory-Categorization” is essential in ensuring business continuity during the COVID-19 pandemic and helps reduce the amount of stock they have on hand. It enhanced the opportunity for employees to properly focus on their work and an opportunity for better work-life balance. The results of the study can also help supply chain stakeholders in their establishment of critical strategies.Research limitations/implicationsThe implications of this research work help the Indian furniture industry to make supply chain investment decisions that benefit the organization to sustain itself.Originality/valueThis is the first study to explore key supply chain strategies for the post-COVID-19 era. This work will assist managers and practitioners in helping the organization decide which supply chain strategies are more critical to the betterment of the organization.

The goal of this research is to optimize the input parameters utilized in dry CNC drilling of forging steel to attain sustainable machining. Particular emphasis will be placed on achieving high productivity while minimizing the impact on surface quality. To achieve the aforementioned goal, three Taguchi-based multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approaches, such as traditional gray relational analysis (GRA), weighted gray relational analysis (WGRA), and data envelopment analysis ranking (DEAR), were used for simultaneous optimization of the MRR and Ra. In Taguchi’s L12 (24) orthogonal array design, the cutting mode parameters—such as cutting speed, depth of cut, feed rate, and point angle—have been chosen as the input parameters for the modeling and analysis of the drilling process characteristics. The process of determining the effect of the input parameters on the output parameters was carried out with the use of analysis of variance (ANOVA). The best results from the studies were Ra = 2.19 and MRR = 375 mm3/s, which corresponded to Taguchi’s single optimization levels, S2F1D1A2 and S2F2D2A1, respectively. In the next step, the performance values obtained for each MCDM technique were reoptimized using the Taguchi method, and the optimal levels were obtained: for traditional GRA, the level S2F1D2A1 (Ra = 2.52 µm, MRR = 125 mm3/s); for WGRA, the level S2F1D1A1 (Ra = 2.31 µm, MRR = 83 mm3/s); and for DEAR, the level S2F2D2A1 (Ra = 4.42 µm, MRR = 375 mm3/s), respectively. Lastly, in order to compare the experiments’ performance, validation tests were carried out. The results of the experiments using multi-objective optimization show that traditional GRA improved the overall quality response characteristics by 29.86% compared to the initial setup parameters, while weighted GRA improved them by 34.48%, with the DEAR method providing an improvement of 96%. Based on the findings of this investigation, the DEAR optimization method outperforms the GRA method. As a result, the proposed methods are useful tools for multi-objective optimization of cutting parameters.
