Multicast Congestion Control on Many-to-Many Videoconferencing

Abstract: Congestions in many-to-many videoconferencing are usually caused by multiple senders. Judging the congestion links and determining the adjusting bit rate of senders which caused the congestions are the two issues in congestion control. In this paper, we propose one multicast congestion control scheme based on packets transmission model of shared multicast tree. The end-to-end packet loss rates are measured to get PLR matrix for judging congestion links via tomography method. The bit rates of senders which caus… Show more

“…Furthermore, Akkus et al improve this approach at a certain degree in the literature [4]. Zhang et al propose another similar scheme to reduce delay or packet loss, which is deployed in multi-channel media delivery [5]. They find a PLR (Packet Loss Rate) matrix for multichannel delivery paths, which can help to locate exactly the links resulting in network congestion.…”

“…There are several application layer strategies for multi-channel content dissemination in existing literature [3][4][5][6]. Akkus et al mainly adopt a chain-topology overlay to disseminate multi-channel media streams considering lack of network bandwidth and use layered video coding to reduce communication traffic to satisfy the network capacity at the expense of multimedia presentation quality [3].…”

“…The other mechanism uses the Fuzzy-logic-based Rate Adaption (FRA) Scheme for TFMCC to control the congestion in order to enhance the smoothness of TFMCC. In order to alleviate oscillations of sending rate for TFMCC sender, FRA introduces five actions for adjusting rate [9][10][11].…”
