Multiconstituent identification in root, branch, and leaf extracts of Juglans mandshurica using ultra high performance liquid chromatography with quadrupole time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry

Abstract: As a traditional medicinal plant, Juglans mandshurica has been used for the treatment of cancer. Different organs of this plant showed anti-tumor activity in clinic and laboratory. Comparative identification of constituents in different plant organs is essential for investigation of the relationship between chemical constituents and pharmacological activities. For this aim, the roots, branches, and leaves of J. mandshurica were extracted with 50% v/v methanol and then subjected to ultra-high performance liquid… Show more

“…The compounds identified consisted of tannins, naphthalene derivatives, organic acids, flavonoids, diarylheptanoids, lignans, and anthraquinones. The result and the fragmentation pattern of those compounds identified was consistent with our previous report on the chemical profile of ethanol extract of J. mandshurica [ 33 ].…”

“…Tannins were found to be the main constituents in the decoction and 45 tannins were characterized. The fragmentation pattern of these tannins was characterized by continuous loss of acyl and/or organic acid groups and presence of typical product ions of the corresponding organic acid ( Figure S1a ) [ 32 , 33 ]. The organic acid and the polyol carbohydrate core in the structure of the tannins identified mainly consisted of gallic acid and glucose, respectively.…”

“…In addition, the identification of potential unique chemical markers present in various botanical extracts would aid in ensuring product integrity and prevent economic adulteration and counterfeiting of study materials. This has led to the utilization of analytical techniques, including, HPLC and LC–MS/MS analyses, for the characterization of botanical ingredients .…”

“…Its fresh rejuvenated fruit has been used traditionally as a medicine for treatment of cancer and dermatosis, and as an anodyne to relieve aches in China ( Liu et al, 2004a ). The nuts are extensively used as food because of its considerable nutritional value ( Wang et al, 2017b ; Mu et al, 2017 ). In Japan, several parts of this plant have been used in folk medicines and the fruits have been commonly used for the treatment of chilblains and athlete’s foot ( Machida et al, 2005 ).…”
