Multifunctional applications of a dysprosium-based metal–organic chain with single-ion magnet behaviour

Abstract: A novel metal-organic chain constructed of dysprosium and sodium ions based on 5-aminopyridine-2-carboxylic acid has been synthesized and characterized. The formation of this 1D-MOF is achieved using a soft solvothermal route with dimethylformamide as solvent. This material displays intense photoluminescence properties in the solid state at room temperature and exhibits SIM behavior with frequency dependence of the out-of-phase susceptibility at zero dc field. More interesting, we report here the magnetic fiel… Show more

“…The inhibitory effect against the non-adherent COLO320 cells was measured with the water-soluble MTS dye to avoid repeated centrifugations of the cell culture plate; the reagent was CellTiter 96 aqueous one solution cell proliferation assay, from Promega, Madison, WI, USA. The proliferating capacity was assessed using Alamar blue dye, by fluorescence, as described before [ 47 ]. Alamar Blue is a resazurin-based reagent from Invitrogen, acquired through Thermo Fisher Scientific, Waltham, MA, USA.…”

“…In particular, the study of transition metal ion-based MOFs has evolved enormously in a great quantity of areas, and considering the advantage that ions have fairly predictable coordination spheres, it allows us to design materials with application for virtually all fields. In this sense, in recent years, our group and others have worked on the design of novel MOFs to study their properties in luminescence, 4 gas adsorption, 5 catalysis, 6 magnetism, 7 biology as drug-delivery systems, 8 cytotoxic agents 9 and sensing. 10 Bearing in mind the interest of our group in the study of MOFs based on nitrogen linkers with carboxylate groups, we decided to study the properties of this type of materials with the interesting 1H-indazole-4-carboxylic acid because, as far as we know, there are no coordination compounds synthesized with it.…”

“…Upon cooling, the χ M T values of complexes 1 – 3 decreased tardily in temperature range 300–50 K and then decreased rapidly until 2 K with minimum values of 11.20, 10.41 and 11.29 cm 3 K mol –1 , respectively. The decreases of the temperature dependence susceptibility were attributed to the depopulation of Dy III stark sublevels and/or weak antiferromagnetic dipole–dipole interaction between the molecules . The field dependence magnetizations for complexes 1 – 3 were determined at 1.8, 3, 5 and 8 K in the field range of 0–60 K Oe (Figure ).…”
