“…Oxidation protection is a key requirement for C/C composites to be used as high-temperature structural materials in the practical application [7]. Oxidation resistance coatings with a SiC bonding layer are considered to be an effective method for addressing this issue [8]. However, the inherent brittleness of the coatings and the mismatch of coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE) between or among different layers can result in defects in the coatings, which induce the collapse of the coating system.…”

“…3 Because of its good physical and chemical compatibility, SiC is widely used as the bonding layer between C/C composites and outer layers. 4,5 MoSi 2 has a high melting point and excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, which makes it an attractive material as an outer layer in an oxidative atmosphere at high temperatures. Up to now, a number of coating techniques, such as slurry, 6 chemical vapor deposition 7 and pack cementation, 8 have been used to obtain MoSi 2 -based coatings.…”

“…Recently, multi-composition and multi-layer coatings have been synthesized and applied widely to enhance the oxidation resistance of C/C composites [4][5][6]. SiC is usually used as a bonding and buffer layer because of its good compatibility with C/C composites [7].…”
