“…The resonance of T 3 at -67 ppm in MeSi gel shifts to lower chemical shift (−68.7 ppm) with the presence of phosphorus compound in 10Si-1P and 7Si-3P gels, consistent with the formation of Si O P bonds. This result is absolutely accorded to the report of Clayden et al [25], the replacement of silicon by phosphorus in the framework cause the 29 Si chemical shift to move to more negative values; likewise with the higher phosphorus contents the evidence for cross-linking is stronger. The possible structure of the proposed hybrid network in the coating without phosphorus (MeSi) and containing phosphorus content (10Si-1P, 7Si-3P) on a metallic substrate is given in Fig.…”

“…Indeed, the starting materials used were P 2 O 5 (and Si(OEt) 4 ). Clayden, Aronne et al [26,31] showed that both P\O\P and P\O\Si linkages should be taken into account for the interpretation of NMR spectra.…”

“…The 31 P spectrum of 50P 2 O 5 × 30CaO × 20Na 2 O using H 3 PO 4 as reference for the chemical shift shows two resonances at about − 35.3 ppm and − 11 ppm attributed to Q 2 and Q 1 species, respectively. 31 P MAS NMR spectra of xerogels and heat treated materials show resonances located in the range [0, − 50 ppm]. The relative intensities depend on the chemical composition and on the heat treatment.…”

“…, 2008b). Indeed, it is well known that structural and compositional features of bioactive glasses are strongly connected to their bioactivity (Clayden et al, 2005;Lin et al, 2005). In particular, it has been demonstrated (Tilocca, 2010) that in compositions less bioactive than the 45S5 the majority of phosphate groups are linked to one or two silicon atoms.…”
