Multiple carrier ultra‐wideband systems using an optical pulse modulation scheme

Abstract

small unequal observed spacing is due to the nonlinear regions of the sine wave used for frequency sweeping the LO frequency, so the resulting conversion from frequency to time domain is not fully linear. For both presented examples, we achieved successful recovery of the spectral amplitude information in the electrical baseband domain that can be used to control an optical switching fabric. CONCLUSIONWe have proposed and experimentally demonstrated a coherent detection-based SAC label recognition method reliant on DSP postprocessing. The proposed method can be used in optical routers and has advantages over the conventional optical autocorrelator-based SAC label detectors. The proposed label detector produces an electrical image of the label spectrum makes software-defined timing and threshold setting possible. This enables firmware-based upgradability of the networks' label density, number, and spectral positioning. At the same time, it avoids the use of numerous autocorrelators with optical amplifiers, by employing a single coherent detection receiver that can reduce the complexity and power consumption of each label detection block that represent significant positive impact on routers and network scalability. Furthermore, the use of DSP-based receivers also opens the way for straightforward integration with digital control of optical switching fabrics. ABSTRACT: This study proposes a new optical pulse modulation scheme for multiple carrier ultra-wideband (MC-UWB) wireless systems to achieve a reliable high-bit-rate transmission. The scheme can decrease the system complexity and lowering cost. Moreover, the UWB receiver is adapted with a modified single-user correlation detector to recover original data signal by a narrow carrier spacing. Finally, we set up a practical experimental system to prove our proposed scheme. Experiment results demonstrate that the scheme can provide high spectral efficiency and reduce interference noise for MC-UWB wireless communications.
