Multiple chiral bands in $$^{137}$$Nd

Abstract: Two new bands have been identified in 137 Nd from a high-statistics JUROGAM II gamma-ray spectroscopy experiment. Constrained density functional theory and particle rotor model calculations are used to assign configurations and investigate the band properties, which are well described and understood. It is demonstrated that these two new bands can be interpreted as chiral partners of previously known three-quasiparticle positive-and negative-parity bands. The newly observed chiral doublet bands in 137 Nd repre… Show more

“…Another experimental fingerprint of nonaxial nuclear shapes is the observation of a pair of chiral doublet bands. Evidence of chiral doublet bands has been found in 135 Ce [47], as well as in several other neighboring nuclei such as [135][136][137][138] Nd [45,[48][49][50][51], 133 Ce [52], 133 La [53], and 131 Ba [54]. Apart from these, a number of γ -vibrational bands have been observed in this region.…”

“…Refs. [41][42][43] provide detailed experimental information on the setup and data processing. By combining the angular correlation and linear polarization methods, the mixing ratio value of the ∆I = 1, 751-keV transition liking the one-phonon and zero-phonon wobbling bands is determined.…”

“…Nuclear chirality [2] has been intensively studied, and many chiral nuclei have been identified in the A ≈ 130 mass region (e.g., 131 Ba [3], 133 La [4], 133 Ce [5], 135,136,137,138 Nd [6][7][8][9][10][11], 124,126,128,130 Cs [12][13][14][15][16]), as well as in the A ≈ 190 mass region (e.g., 193,194,195,198 Tl [17][18][19][20][21][22]), in the A ≈ 100 mass region (e.g., 103,105,111,113 Rh [23][24][25][26], 105,107 Ag [27,28]), and in the A ≈ 80 mass region (e.g., 78,80 Br [29,30]), making this motion a more common phenomenon. For a recent review on chirality over the nuclear chart see Ref.…”
