Multiple-Frequency Matching Treatment Strategy for Tinnitus

Abstract: OBJECTIVE:The first aim was to integrate commonly used tinnitus measures into a comprehensive questionnaire. Second, the effectiveness of a masking therapy based on multiple-frequency matching was verified in a clinical study. This study investigated the feasibility of a new treatment strategy for tinnitus, with two main foci. MATERIALS and METHODS:Compare multiple-frequency matching with traditional masking therapy (Single-frequency matching) through clinical trials. The analysis indicated that the reliabilit… Show more

“…The stimulation is selective, because each tone of the sequence has a frequency-response curve very similar to the curves of neural resonances of the auditory pathway. It has been well documented that those tones contain three pure tones, which match the tinnitus frequency, and combined with white noise improve tinnitus symptoms ( Tao et al, 2017 ). Similarly, fractal tones tailored to the hearing loss of the participants have demonstrated a decrease in tinnitus severity ( Tyler et al, 2017 ), and prevention of tonotopic reorganization of the auditory cortex ( Eggermont and Roberts, 2004 ; Noreña and Eggermont, 2005 ).…”

“…In recent years, based on the maladaptive auditory cortex reorganization theory in the study of tinnitus mechanism, some researchers have achieved certain results in the application of tailor-made notched music (TMNM) to individualized acoustic therapy for tinnitus patients. [ 6 ] Acoustic therapy is a physical and non-invasive treatment that is divided into masking therapy which is similar to tinnitus [ 7 ] and a custom therapy that diverts attention, temporarily forgetting or listening to the original sound of nature. [ 8 ] The current effective rate reports are quite different.…”
