Multiple resistance to acetolactate synthase (ALS)- and acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase)-inhibiting herbicides in black-grass (Alopecurus myosuroides Huds.) populations from Poland

Abstract: Alopecurus myosuroides seeds were sampled from 32 winter wheat fields from 2010 to 2014. Resistance to herbicides was detected in 17 A. myosuroides populations. In addition to single resistance to herbicides, cross-resistance and multiple resistance to acetolactate synthase (ALS)- and acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase (ACCase)-inhibiting herbicides were found. Application of sulfometuron and imazapyr was unable to control some of the resistant biotypes in this study. This result implies that resistance in these po… Show more

“…In western Europe, resistance to ACCase inhibitors is the dominant type of resistance (Délye et al 2007;Petersen and Rosenhauer 2014). In Poland, according to our studies, there are no differences in the resistance to ALS and ACCase inhibitors (Adamczewski et al 2016). In some regions of the country, we have observed multiple resistance.…”

“…The results obtained between 2010 and 2014 have already been published (Adamczewski et al 2016). The above-mentioned publication also included a map of the occurrence of blackgrass biotypes resistant to herbicides.…”

“…In two of these regions, Lower Silesia and Warmia-Masuria, issues with cornflower resistance to ALS inhibitors were first reported in 2006 [20] and 2010 [21], respectively. The provinces of Warmia-Masuria, Lublin and Lower Silesia are also regions in Poland where herbicide-resistant populations of other weed species in winter cereal fields have been found, such as A. spica venti or A. myosuroides [34][35][36][37]. According to a study by Adamczewski et al [25] undertaken in Poland over a 14-year period (2004-2017), A. spica-venti populations resistant to ALS inhibitors were found in over 50% of fields.…”

“…1 Also, its resistance against pinoxaden was reported before. 15,21 TSR mutations in the ACCase sequence were present in low frequencies in the populations resistant to pinoxaden, therefore, metabolic detoxification was indicated to be the significant cause of resistance. 22 Still, the knowledge concerning the NTSR mechanism to this herbicide at the molecular level is deficient.…”
