Abstract:Muscle atrophy involves a loss of muscle mass and decreased contractile force production as part of the pathophysiology of many conditions including heart failure‐ or cancer‐induced cachexia, disuse atrophy, and age‐related sarcopenia. Decreased muscle fiber size and other mechanisms contribute to a loss of muscle strength resulting in frailty that compromises the health and well‐being of patients. During heart failure the degree of cachexia more closely correlates with fatigue level than the ejection fraction… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
